Knowing a Muslim is what will decrease hate.
Modeled after Humans of New York, the goal of Tell Muslim Stories (TMS) is to showcase the diverse lives of Muslims residing in the U.S. by featuring different individuals and their accomplishments.
TMS aims to help others have a better understanding of what Muslims are truly like. In the last decade, Islamophobia has become rampant within the nation, creating harmful stereotypes around the Muslim community. The number of assaults against Muslims in the U.S. in 2016 surpassed the modern peak reached in 2001, the year of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Islamophobia has led to Muslims being viewed as different or foreign, when in reality, this is not the case.
TMS works to end these stereotypes by creating a sense of normalcy around being Muslim. Muslims — just like anyone else — are actors, doctors, teachers, writers, and more. In an era of misconceptions, telling Muslim stories has never been so important.
