Going through my own personal battles and experiences with mental health, I realized that it can make someone feel really isolated and alone. I want my career to have an impact on my community, but also allow me to educate others on the importance of mental health. I am really grateful to have such an amazing support system, whether it be from therapists or friends. I want to be that person for others; a supportive individual in their life to talk to about anything.
I would feel really honored and privileged that someone would come to me for support, because that not only shows they have trust in me, but they're also willing to be vulnerable and open up about their experience. There is a huge stigma around mental health because of the fear of judgement.
The last five years of my life have been very difficult, emotionally. My therapists have been the people in my life who have allowed me to say exactly how I feel in a very non-judgmental, compassionate, and empathetic space. I am thankful that Muslim therapists are becoming more available and they're providing support to other Muslims. I want to continue that trend so my community and family learn more about the importance of taking care of your mental health.
